When Micah Winn sits down to study, his demeanor is every bit as intense as when he steps onto the basketball court. Brow furrowed and eyes alight with determination, it would be hard to tell the difference between a picture of him guarding an opponent and one of him writing an essay. Without this determination, Winn said his life could have turned out much differently.

Since the National Association of Collegiate eSports launched in 2016, more than 300 colleges and universities across the U.S. have launched eSports programs. Collegiate leagues for competitive gamers are quickly growing in popularity, and Western’s Rocket League Club members hope to get eSports and their team recognized across campus.

The Sandy, Oregon native was part of a record-topping group of 543 nominated female college athletes from all three NCAA divisions. She is one of 117 Division II nominees and 87 track and field nominees.
